Know when to stop
Smoke, sparks, a burning smell, damaged wiring or water near electrics? Stop using the appliance. Disconnect or isolate power only if it is safe. Do not repeatedly restart it. Internal electrical, refrigerant and microwave work belongs with a qualified technician.
This page is for basic observations and manufacturer-approved owner care. It is not a repair manual. Follow the instructions for your exact model; do not remove panels, test live circuits, bypass locks, bridge fuses or release refrigerant.
Air conditioner: start outside the appliance
Clean only filters designated as user-removable in your manual, with the power isolated. Let them dry before refitting. Leave outdoor ventilation clear, avoid spraying electrical areas and arrange a service when cooling or drainage changes. Never open refrigerant pipes yourself.
| Symptom | Safe check |
|---|---|
| Runs but does not cool | Check cooling mode and temperature; keep doors closed and confirm accessible filters are clean. |
| Water from the indoor unit | Stop use if water approaches sockets or electronics. Note where the leak begins. |
Refrigerator: start outside the appliance
Allow ventilation specified by the model manual, keep door seals clean and avoid obstructing internal air vents. Move temperature-sensitive food to suitable alternative cold storage if cooling fails. A repair call does not establish whether food is safe to eat. Never puncture ice or refrigerant tubing.
| Symptom | Safe check |
|---|---|
| Fridge warm, freezer cold | Avoid packing food against air vents and check that doors close. |
| Both sections warm | Confirm power and settings without opening covers; keep door opening brief. |
Washing machine: start outside the appliance
Use the detergent type and dose specified for the machine and local water conditions. Empty pockets and avoid overloading. Clean accessible filters only when the manual permits it, with power disconnected, water cooled and a plan to contain draining water. Leave the drum dry and ventilated when safe around children and pets.
| Symptom | Safe check |
|---|---|
| Will not fill | Check the water tap and visible hose for a kink. |
| Will not drain | Stop the cycle and check only the externally visible hose. |
Television: start outside the appliance
Keep ventilation openings clear, clean the screen only as the manual directs and avoid liquid spray. Do not open the rear cover: power sections can retain hazardous charge. Arrange safe access to wall-mounted sets and tell us if lifting needs additional people.
| Symptom | Safe check |
|---|---|
| No picture, sound works | Try a different external source and confirm the correct input. |
| TV keeps restarting | Disconnect optional external devices if safe; note when it restarts. |
Microwave oven: start outside the appliance
Keep the cavity clean with manufacturer-approved methods and use containers suitable for the chosen mode. Never run the oven empty, bypass a door switch, remove its cover or attempt capacitor discharge. Unplugging does not make the internal high-voltage circuit safe.
| Symptom | Safe check |
|---|---|
| Runs but does not heat | Confirm the programme is not a timer-only setting; stop repeated testing. |
| Sparks or burns | Stop the appliance and disconnect safely; do not use it again until assessed. |
Dishwasher: start outside the appliance
Scrape loose food, leave spray arms free and use dishwasher detergent. Follow your manual for user-filter cleaning and salt settings. Avoid touching broken glass inside the sump and do not reach into pumps. Stop the appliance if leakage reaches electrical areas.
| Symptom | Safe check |
|---|---|
| Dishes remain dirty | Check loading clearance, correct detergent and the user filter. |
| Water remains inside | Stop and inspect only externally accessible hose routing. |
